#2046   Lace Runner   c. 1870

  Brussels    18 x 90 inches

Materials:
Handmade Duchesse bobbin lace and Pointe de Gaze needlelace worked in linen thread.

Provenance: From the estate of Ralph and Ria Cooley, Westfield, MA. The Cooleys were owners of the Cooley & Noble Drum Factory in western Massachusetts, famous for supplying drums to the Union Army during the Civil War.

Condition: Perfect.

Measurements: 18" X 90".

Comments: A fine example of the lost art of lace making. Entirely hand worked, even the background net in the Pointe de Gaze insertions is hand done. These needlelace medallions are breath taking, worked with three dimensional roses. The airy delicate needlelace forms a perfect contrast to the heavier patterned bobbin lace.
