#1962  Evening Slippers   c. 1790s

United States

Materials:
Pale blue silk satin, silk floss, silk ribbon, leather soles, linen lining.

Condition: Near perfect. Slight foxing on the blue satin.

Measurements: L, 10"; Wd, 2.5"; Heel Ht, .85".

Comments: In the 18th and 19th centuries slippers was the word used to refer to shoes that did not lace. The long pointed toe and small heel of these straights (no left or right) place this style before the end of the 18th c. Elaborately embroidered bows on the vamp are worked in brown chain stitch and gold and dark pink floss. Charming pair of lady's late 18th century evening slippers.
