#2081   Muslin Reticule   c. 1810-1825

United States: MA

Materials:
Off white cotton, pink and brown wool, cotton cord.

Provenance: This reticule traces back to the descendants of a prominent Massachusetts family:  Rebecca Kingsbury (b. 1713, d. 1807) of West Dedham, MA.

Condition: Fair. The muslin bag has a few holes; the crewel embroidered wool designs on both sides of the reticule are mostly worn away, leaving the design pattern prickings.

Measurements: 8" X 9".

Comments: This bag would have accessorized an early 19th c.  muslin dress, probably with similar crewel embellishment. An interesting study piece or prototype for reproduction.
