#2672 Cotton Summer Dress  1800-1808

Materials:

Fine printed cotton, white homespun linen bodice lining, linen ties.

Condition: Excellent. Slight fading to sleeves, few tiny holes, several period mends or patches. No stains, nor has construction ever been altered.

Measurements:  Sh-Sh, 12.5"; B, 32"; Dress L, 57"; Slv L, 28"; Hem C, 86".

Comments: The extremely narrow back on this dress and the apron-front construction were both fashionable in the first decade of the 19th C. Two ties on either side of the front drop-panel pass through button-hole stitched loops tying at center back.  The narrow bias-cut bodice was pinned to the neckline. Beautiful tiny stitching is found throughout this dress and ALL seams are rolled. Favorite details are the sleeve caps and the insertion of a 2" ruched self-fabric panel at the hem. Finally, the miniscule red on white diamond print adds to the whimsical charm of this early cotton day dress.
