Comments: Charming hand sewn summer
party dress exhibits construction techniques of the mid 1840s to1850s:
back fastening bodice with no darts and a fan front, a full gauged
skirt, and piped waistband and armscyes. The bodice is trimmed with
bobbin lace at the sleeve and neckline, while a heavier hand embroidered
lace that trims the lining can be seen through the bobbin lace. The
organdy muslin is as soft as a cloud. This dress is photographed over a
horizontally tucked petticoat (NFS) that shows through the dress' muslin
in the photographs below. This simple, beautifully constructed
dress evokes the purity and innocence we associate with the mid 19th
century.
