Comments:
This dress belonged to a
family in southern Vermont. Tartan fabrics were all the rage in the
1850s, and this plaid silk dress was right in style for its day. This
one piece dress is fully lined, has one deep pocket and all stitching is
meticulously hand done. The neckline,
armscyes, and waist are all piped in self fabric. The wide capped pagoda
sleeve, curved back bodice seam and triple box-pleated skirt are
construction details of the mid to late1850s.
