#2637   Lady's Bathing Costume  c. 1900

Materials:
Two Piece Suit: red and white pin-stripe cotton twill, white cotton trim, elastic, tagua nut buttons.

Provenance: Bathing costume was purchased from Doris Langley Moore (legendary British fashion historian) by an important American collector. She collected American and European clothing during the decades of the 1940s through 1980s.

Condition: Perfect. Skirt waistband has been taken in.

Measurements:    Suit: B, 42"; W, 30"; H, 46"; Suit L, 45.5". Skirt L, 22.5".

Comments: Lady's turn of the century bathing costumes were predominantly made using black or navy fabrics. This red and white stripe is a delightful find. Please note that in several of the photographs the narrow vertical stripes look like wavy moiré fabric; this is technical defect - the fabric is indeed striped!
